In the past, I have often used treasured fabrics, and botique patterns when I make my kids clothing. It has been difficult for me to let them wear them on any occasion.
I feel like I should do similarly. I have some clothes here that they have grown out of and have hardly been worn. And I dont feel I can just give them to anyone as they are a) made to fit my kids b) others wont appreciate the effort gone into the project.
ETA- the longies- Tracy made those for us, and somehow they survived!
Do I just put up with the stains and know that they are wearing them because they love them?
Or do I keep them for good, so that everyone can see my kids in clean nice crisp clothing occasionally?

Keep one outfit for good and let them wear the other ones to death. It is sad if they grow out of hand made clothing which has hardly been worn. It is different if the child refuses to wear them (now who am I thinking of? :P) But if your kids love what you make for them, let them go for it. Nothing makes me happier than my kids asking can they wear something that I made for them.
I let mine wear them whenever, although if that were a pair of longies i'd knitted i admit i would cringe!!!
I let my kids wear there clothes that I ake them - why put them away in the cupboard where no-one can see them:) I must admit though the rainbow dress has only ben worn on special occasions:)
I love that photo! Nothing like a good old mud bath. Hey look at your followers! you're almost at 100!! Way to go Carolyn. Your blog does look very cute.
let em were em i say..... let your kids be messy in style!!!!
I agree, let them wear them. I like to make a couple of outfits for good and the rest they can wear whenever they like.
I love when my kids get all dirty! Napisan is a good mate of mine! Let them wear them I say... better getting lots of use than none at all!
I tend to make "special" things with a certain occasion in mind after the occasion I figure it would be better to wear than grow out of without it ever seeing daylight again
oooh I love this post! such a conundrum!! I vote for letting them wear whatever they like, whenever they like. Think of it this way - does it make you more sad when they grow out of something they've only worn once? or when they wear something special to death and it falls apart before they outgrow it :)?
I'm another one who thinks they should wear them when they want. Better that they get worn and stained, ripped etc than sit in the cupboard doing nothing.
I have one or two "good" outfits for those "good" events :)
