2010- Come and blog with us!

Welcome to my blog where I post at random intervals to brag about something that I have made, tell you about my family, whine about something that bugs me or just generally ramble!

For 2010 I thought that it would be great for us who sew to be challenged a little or a lot- depending on what takes your interest.

So each month I will be posting a challenge. Each month you (the blogger) can sign up for the challenge. It would be fun to blog about your challenge thought the month, but its not essential.

You can participate each month, or just for one month, depending on what your life is throwing at you at the time.

The first sign up will be in the first (starting the 1st) of each month, and ‘presenting’ your projects will be in the last week of each month. (again there are no rules)

But remember… it is to challenge you. So if you think “oh no I cant insert zips” maybe that’s the month that you sign up so that you can learn.

At the end of the month blog your project, even if its still a WIP. There will also be a flickr group HERE so that you can scroll through projects quickly- or if you want to join in but dont have a blog.

I will try and include free patterns and tutorials to help you along your way. Im still learning too!

There will also be some free giveaways at random times!

The challenges are:

January: something for me

February: something in knit

March: softie

April: something lined

May: enclosed zip

June something self designed or drafted.

July: something with pleats

August: hand embroidery/ smocking

September: bag

October: refashioned (visit your op-shop and create something new!)

November: Something for the Christmas tree

December: sharpen your skills on one of the challenges!

Thank you to Romi for the button and to Tracy and Suzanne for being a sounding board for the challenges.

So... Would love for you to be involved as little or as much as your life can take. Feel free to send me an email or comment if you have any questions or ideas.

Happy 5th Birthday Tyler

rom birth to 5yo, this young son of mine has been such a delight.

He sure does keep me on my toes, but I figure that this is a sign that he is fit and healthy.

He is a climber, he asks why at every turn (why is that car blue? why is he driving a truck? but why!?)  he loves to help is brother and sisters, he loves cuddles, and he loves cricket.

He is a typical boy, loves his vegitables, and has a very cheeky look about him, that suits is actual personality.

Happy 5th Birthday Tyler, its been an absolute honor to be your mum!

[and yes I did have him on boxing day, the little one decided to come 2 weeks early.

I was woken at 7am needing to go to the loo, got up to find I really didnt need to go.

Came back to bed and my bed got wet!  Told my husband who just grunted!  Told him again and he jumped into action! I didnt go into labour right away but was by 3pm.

Went into hospital and requested an epidural as my prior labour I had blamed not progressing due to stress so I wanted to try the epidural.  My husband sat watching the cricket and my mother knitted.

After a while I was checked and a few more efforts were made to try and increase my labour.  After a little while the babies heart rate began to drop, and while the Dr watched the cricket and discussed Chirstmas lunch he had cooked he also got me to sign the papers for a c-section LOL!!!

So little Tyler was born into the world! And he took to the breast like a duck to water!  They wanted to make the video out of it he did such a good job.

I was a little woozey.  my haemoglobin was very low and had also a rough labour, despite not feeling any of it due to the epidural.

But here he was, such a healthy little boy, so ready to meet the world and has not stopped since! (and our older Mitchell was just 15mo)]

More Backpacks

here we have 3 more backpacks.  2 using the Indietutes backpack pattern.  They are made out of denim with feature stitching.  One is indigo and the other is blue.  They are both to give away.

The other is the Made by Rae toddler backpack.  Again in blue denim, but this one has a zip as well as piping.  If anyone has any ideas of how to do piping neatly around tight edges please feel free to let me know, as if I can figure this out I might put my finger to selling these!

I really enjoyed making these.

on to the Buttercup bags that I have cut out!

Please excuse me as I play around with blog templates and designs, im trying to find 'me'.

I was sewing last night, and looked down to see my husbands hard hat sitting on a box.  I had a little giggle and thought Id share it with you.  I recon that is what he puts n every time he dares to enter my den!

Have you discovered Made by Rae?

I did a little while ago, but didnt do much more about it :( But now I am in the market for a new bag pattern as Christmas is NEXT WEEK!! and I have presents to make!

So I am going to try and make the Buttercup bag for my neice for her birthday which was in November.  I also have her mother and her Aunt (both my sister in laws) so I might make them Lickerty Split bag.  I also LOVE the toddler back pack pattern, and have been eyeing that for a few months.

I also need to finish my bag swap, but am still arguing with myself over fabric choices LOL!

Lets see what I can come up with!

2 new redondos

Told ya they were easy, so much so that I made 2 more, one for my little girl and the other for a birthday pressie.  Its far easier for me to sew with the twirls going anti clockwise (on the right side).  So this will be the order from now onwards.

and also 2 little head bands, with mezzanine.

new title for my blog

I have decided to change the title of my blog, I hope that I dont confuse anyone.  I have for a while been wondering what to call my blog and also my sewing.  I wont be selling any of my creations, but it is nice to lut a little tag on things.  So when I remember I will pop on "my favourite" lable.

I decided to call it "my favourite" as that is what my boys call things that they love.  Whever they see something new they scream with delight "my favourite".  That excitement is what I hope that my creations create for people.

I hope to get a new header at some point soon too, so stay tuned.

very generous giveaway!

Over here in partnership with Retro Mummy- thank you for the opportunity :D

Chirstmas Redondo

This pattern is so easy and effective.  Only it does take some patience when cutting out.  Silly me put the fabric right sides to right sides, which gave me curves facing the different directions, so after I hit my head on the wall a few times I had to make it using the usual 5 curves.  I would have made it 6 (if it works) so that I could have had the same amount of fabric, rather than the larger panel at the front.

Pattern from Crafty mamas, link in the side bar.

Pl excuse the pics, she was eating and watching tv along with the 5.30pm hairdo!
